Review: 2017 Jaguar XF

While luxury automakers have lately trended toward catering to diverse tastes with over-designed crossover SUVs and compact cars, Jaguar still places emphasis on creating a performance sedan that’s classically beautiful and just as powerful.

The 2017 Jaguar XF is a confident-looking car, and one test drive will tell you that confidence is justified (so will Jag’s best-in-class 5-year/50,000-mile warranty). But before you go, read our full review:

Styling

The XF has an elongated hood with a deep power bulge, punctuated by an upright grille with F-Type inspired badge and LED-accented lighting. Jaguar designers gave the 2017 model a profile with the impression of a perfect arc, creating improved aerodynamic efficiency and stability while maximizing design elements to boost performance. In the rear, it has wrap-around pinstripe LED lighting, dual exhaust, and a badge to match the one on the grille.

Inside, the design is simple and sophisticated with an intuitive dash and center stack, luxurious seating, and surprisingly spacious rear, given the sedan’s proportion.

Engine

This year the XF features an all-new 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine as its base powertrain. It makes 180 horsepower and 318 lb-ft of torque, all while getting up to 42 MPG, making it a powerful yet fuel efficient model. If you’re looking for a V6, there are two 3.0-liter supercharged options, one that makes 340 horsepower or one that makes 380 horsepower.

All models of the 2017 XF have available all-wheel drive (standard rear-wheel drive) and an 8-speed automatic transmission with shifter paddles on the steering wheel.

Features

Each model of the XF is equipped with an InControl infotainment system with 8-inch touchscreen and 12-speaker Meridian sound system for crisp and clear sound even at high speeds. Other standard features include rearview camera, stop/start technology, power driver’s seat with memory, keyless start, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, and Jaguar Drive Control with three modes. One trim level up adds heated leather seats and navigation.

If you’re looking for the ultimate in luxury, you can also add InControl Touch Pro, navigation with solid-state drive, front and rear parking sensors, soft-close doors, cooled front seats, heated rear seats, suede headliner, and other premium interior materials.

Safety
The XF has all of the safety features you would expect to keep your family safe, including anti-lock brakes, a full suite of airbags, security system, and seatbelts with pretensioners. But safety is built into all aspects of the 2017 XF, including its All-Wheel Drive with Intelligent Driveline Dynamics that reacts to road conditions intelligently to help you keep control even at high speed. The All Surface Progress Control enhances this by giving extra protection in wet or icy weather.

The XF is also available with the latest in driver assistance technologies, such as autonomous braking, lane-keep assist, and traffic light recognition.
